AFTER more than two decades as a cornerstone of the automotive industry in Port Lincoln and surrounding regions, Port Lincoln Prestige, at 16-22 Mortlock Terrace, has officially opened the doors to its new, purpose-built dealership. Continuing its proud representation of leading automotive brands Ford, Mitsubishi, Subaru and RAM, the new facility signals a significant investment in the region’s future.
The dealership celebrated its official industry opening on Thursday, May 29, which welcomed corporate representatives and brand leaders from across the country. A family-friendly public launch will take place on Saturday, May 31 from 9am, with the local community invited to explore the impressive new space.
One SMG chief executive officer Linh Bui said the vision for the new Port Lincoln Prestige dealership began in 2020. “We had simply outgrown our previous site and it was clear we needed a facility that could support future growth while better meeting the evolving needs of our customers,” he said. “Through careful planning, smart design and strong collaboration with Mossop Construction and Interiors, that vision is now a reality.”
Mr Bui said the most exciting aspect of the new site is what it means for customers. “This facility sets a new standard in how we serve the community - bringing four leading brands together under one roof in a modern, high calibre environment,” he said. “It’s about more than just scale. It’s a new benchmark for regional automotive facilities and a clear demonstration of our long term commitment to the Eyre Peninsula.”
The new dealership spans over 5,200m² and presents a bright, modern and digitally enabled showroom allowing customers to explore their vehicle options in an engaging, comfortable space.
A key feature of the dealership, which is the largest service centre in the region, is that it is equipped with the latest in diagnostic, repair and charging technology. Customer lounges have been designed for both comfort and convenience.
“We’ve also put sustainability at the forefront,” Mr Bui added. “From energy-efficient lighting, glazing to water-saving systems, and capacity to support EV servicing, this site is designed with the future in mind.”
The expansive site accommodates up to 150 vehicles across the display yard and forecourt, with significant additional capacity in the holding yard. “This means we can offer a greater range of new and pre-owned vehicles on-site, reducing wait times and improving the buying experience for our customers,” Mr Bui said. “The private investment behind this facility in this location is substantial evidence in the quality of finishing, it is a genuine commitment to servicing the Port Lincoln and surrounding communities.”
Mr Bui also acknowledged the local workforce involved in the build. “We’re incredibly proud to have worked with over 140 local and South Australian tradespeople during construction,” he said. “This project has been built by and for the community.”
Port Lincoln Prestige dealer principal Steve Walsh said the opening marked a highlight of his career. “This is the first time I’ve been involved in launching a brand-new dealership of this magnitude and it’s really exciting,” he said. “The scale of the place is phenomenal, and I know it’s going to be fantastic for the local area.”
Mr Walsh extended a warm invitation to the community. “We’d love to see everyone at our grand opening on Saturday, May 31 at 9am,” he said. The open day will include massive grand opening specials, live radio broadcasting, free barbecue lunch and children’s face painting. “We are looking forward to welcoming you.”
